I have not experienced
the future I once expected
I have not danced
beneath a clear night sky
nor sung praises to the wind
for the simple sake of living
I cherished the rain
believing protection and love
beyond understanding
sheltered each uncertain step
my tangled hair
unbound by ribbons
or delicate bows
drips slowly these days
crying from the weight
of far too many storms

Song of Ourselves (Zutara Month Day 5: Serenade)
"Come on, Zuko. You've worked so hard to overcome everything. It's okay to let your guard down once in awhile," Katara gently urged.
"You don't understand, Katara. It's my duty to protect you all after everything that's happened…I can't let my guard down just because the war's over. There's still danger out there," he replied warily.
"Zuko, things are all settled now. Besides, you don't need to be so vigilant while we're all here. Things are as safe as they'll ever be!"
It was just after Sozin's comet. They were all staying in Ba Sing Se for awhile to celebrate the end of the war. Aang, Sokka, Toph, and Suki were off helping Uncle Iroh

Zutara Month Day 1: Relief
Torrents of orange and blue
The air was alive with fire
But with reassurance from you
My confidence soared higher
She's slipping, you had said
Yet her power waxed all the same
Just what went through your head
When redirection was your aim?
The crackling intensified
The light began to grow
Her mad eyes glanced just to the side
And my heart stopped when you screamed "NO!"
I stood with frozen terror
As she struck you and you fell
Your sacrifice clearly no error
I knew then I must fight her as well
With azure heat she chased me
Preventing me from your aid
My only hope was victory
In that fiery crusade
Pushing back fear, I took
The Girl in Red dances behind my eyes
Spinning endlessly, she is everything I wish to be
She does not fear to meet the staring gazes
Of fascinated strangers, of lovers in the night
She tosses her hair, raven wisps catching the wind
Shoulders bare, kissed by moonlight and starlight
Bright oceans peer out from behind blackened lashes
Veiled only by soft shadows of towering branches
Her scarlet mantle flows with each seductive turn
With arms flying free, revealing an unguarded heart
Her song is sanguine fire in a sea of desire
She is a dream of purpose and passion I shall never know
